Places To Visit

Batuan Temple

Batuan temple is one of oldest temples in Bali. In this temple we can see various shrines for ancestors and Gods and a lot of old statues. The architecture of this temple is filled with many Balinese carving that will make you amazed. 

Explanation 

With its enchanting architecture and extremely mystical wall carvings, Batuan Temple is one of the Hindu temples that retains its architectural originality from the first time created. This temple was founded in the 11th century as a place to worship of Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. In the Balinese culture, each village must have 3 types of temples to worship the three main gods or the so-called Tri Murthi in Hinduism namely the Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. And Batuan Temple is a temple with two functions that is temple for God Brahma and Lord Vishnu.

The name of this temple is similar to the name of the village where the temple is located which comes from Balinese word “batu” which means stone. And in accordance with its name in this temple there are many ancient relics of stone statues with various forms and functions that are still stored well and maintained.

Monkey Forest Ubud

Monkey forest Ubud extent of approximately 27 hectares and it is a home of more than 1000 monkeys from the type of macaque monkeys with a grey color and long tail. Within this forest you also can see some of Banyan trees that hundreds of years old with the hanging roots that going down reaching the ground. It is an extraordinary experience when you get so close to the monkeys.

Monkey Forest Ubud is one of the famous tourist attractions in Bali. This place is in Ubud area in Gianyar regency. It is easy to reach this place, because it is in the center of Ubud. The Ubud monkey forest covers an area of approximately 27 hectares and is inhabited by over 700 monkeys from the macaque species with grey color and long tail. In addition to monkey place, in this area we can also see some temples, one of temples is Dalem Temple. A temple as a place to worship Lord Shiva. This temple has a very beautiful and interesting architecture. If you want to enter this temple, sarong has been provided for you to wear. In addition, there is also Beji Temple which is a place to carry out cleansing ceremony. And in the north of this area there is also a public grave yard of the village of Ubud. In this place you can also see some banyan trees that are hundreds of years old with hanging twigs that look like roots that extend down. In the western part of the Monkey Forest there is a bridge connecting the east and west area. On this bridge is the best place to take photos because the existence of the huge banyan tree that looks very mystical from the west side to east side. In the west area, there is small wooden walkway, where you can see monkeys and green scenery. It is advisable that you do not bring food in the bag when visiting this place, because the monkeys can smell it and try to pick it up. It is not advisable to touch or look at them in the eyes, because they can be angry. But the monkeys here are not aggressive if we follow the rules. And you are also allowed to take pictures with the monkey closely.

Ubud Palace

This magnificent Balinese style royal building complex is located right in the center of Ubud. Apart from being a royal family residence, this place is a center of Balinese art and culture in Ubud. And at night this place is used as a place for Balinese dance performances for tourists.

Explanation 

The story of Ubud starts from the 18th century when an Indian priest named Rsi Markandeya found Ubud area. Because Ubud area filled with holly aura and positive energy then he built a temple there. Rsi Markandeya is a man who also built Besakih Temple, which is now the largest temple in Bali in the 8th century. Until now the area of Ubud is considered as a place that has a magical and positive aura. The name of Ubud comes from the Balinese language “ubad” which means medicine. In the 17th century many small kingdoms stood in Bali, one of the kingdoms was the kingdom of Ubud. Among the kingdoms there are many contradictions to seize power. One of the greatest kingdoms at that time was the Gelgel Kingdom. At that time the Kingdom of Gelgel built a new palace in Sukawati area. With the aim of expanding the territory of the Gelgel Kingdom, then to be sent two cousins of the king to live in the area around Ubud to be exact in Padang Tegal and Taman Village. Because of there was competition between them, so King Sukawati sent two cousins again to settle in Ubud area that are in Peliatan and Sambahan. And the king’s cousin in Sambahan is told to build a new palace, and the palace is the Ubud Palace that stands up to now. The purpose of building the palace is to defuse the conflict in the area of Ubud. When we visit here, we can only enter until the second yard, because the third yard is still used by the royal family as a place to live. Every night at Ubud Palace there is a Balinese dance performance to entertain tourists in Ubud area. Ubud Palace is in the center of Ubud, close to Ubud market.

Ubud Market

Ubud is very famous for its cultural results and charming handicrafts. In the center of Ubud there is a traditional market, where we can see various kinds of souvenirs and handicrafts in the form of cloth, wood, silver and others. Besides that, we also can see and explore the atmosphere of a traditional market with its various economic or trading processes.

Explanation 

The market is divided into two types of markets, first is the morning market and the second is the art market. The morning market is open from 3 o’clock early morning and usually closes at 11 at noon, and the traders come from different regions in Bali. They sell various types of goods, ranging from vegetables, meat, flowers, herbs and spices, pigs, chickens, ducks, clothing, ceremonial goods and other goods. Early in the morning, market is already crowded with people who want to shop.  It is a different atmosphere when we see them perform the transactions. Here buyers can bargain on items they buy. So, do not be surprised the market is very crowded and noisy. Most people who shop come on a motorcycle, so the parking lot is full of motorcycles. Before they start selling, traders usually put the offerings at the market temple are situated in the corner of the market. Every trader in this market pays taxes to the government and the village. And when the morning market is closed, the other merchants will open their shops to sell several of handicrafts for the visitors and tourists. Here you can find various types of handicrafts from all over Bali, from small to large one. Here you also can make a bargain and do not shy and embarrassed bargain on an item. The art market here is open until 6 pm sometimes also are open until 7pm, depending on the number of visitors.

Tegallalang Rice Terraces

Rows of beautiful terraced rice field’s scenery will make you feel comfortable and marvel at how beautiful a Gods creation is. This place is the best place to take picture of the real Bali rural   atmosphere. In addition to taking pictures, you also can do a short trekking to see how the rice crop and farmers working in the rice fields.

Most of the population in Bali are still working as farmers, and most of them grow rice. Rice fields are an important part of the people of Bali, because with the rice fields they can support their families. One of Bali’s famous and beautiful rice fields is Tegallalang Rice Terrace. Here we can see a row of terraced rice fields surrounded by green and shady trees. In this place we can see and learn how the actual shape of rice plants and how the Balinese plant the rice. An experience that can enlighten you and change your perspective on this life. When you are here, you can capture one of your best moments during your holiday in Bali. You also could do trekking or walk around to take a closer look at the rice fields. 

Tegenungan Waterfall

Tegenungan Waterfall offers an incredible view with a huge amount of water. This waterfall is surrounded by dazzling rock cliffs and hills with lush trees. This place is very decent and interesting to visit. We can also swim under this waterfall.

Tegenungan waterfall is one of the most beautiful and interesting waterfalls in Bali. Located in a rural area with beautiful and green trees make this place worth a visit. This waterfall is in the village of Kemenuh approximately 6 kilometers from Ubud. With a height of about 15 meters and surrounded by rocky cliffs and shady trees make this place very interesting. To see this waterfall closely you must go down the stairs along about 700 meters. And if you do not want to walk down the stairs, you can see the beauty of this waterfall from the cliffs opposite the waterfall. There are some places to take photo and restaurants where you can enjoy the beauty of this waterfall. In this place you also can swim under this waterfall, of course must follow the rules, to avoid accidents. At this waterfall has been available lifeguard and there are specific flags as the sign of the safe place to swim. If you dare, you can also climb the staircase that are on the edge of this waterfall cliff to see water falling closely. It was a beautiful sight to see thousands of liters of water falling from a height.

In addition to this waterfall there is also a source of holy water used by residents as purification and healing water. There is also a small temple in this place as a place of local prayers. The falling water from this waterfall flowing into the river is used by residents as irrigation water for their fields. With the presence of tourists who visited this place also helped the economy of the local population. Where they can open souvenir shops and restaurant that sells drinks and foods for visitors.
